MARTYN Flint has struck gold at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival.

Martyn is the manager of Knutsford-based Chrysanthemums Direct, and the medal follows the business launching its new chrysanthemum, ‘Archie Harrison’, to celebrate the new Royal baby.

The chrysanthemum is a new variety launched in celebration of the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first child.

The new variety was selected ahead of Archie’s arrival for its lemon-yellow flowers, ensuring the plant would be fitting for a Prince or Princess.

The multi award-winning nursery, boasting the widest range of chrysanthemums in the UK, has nurtured the plant for many months in preparation for the eagerly-anticipated news.

Martyn said: “I’m thrilled to have been awarded a gold medal this year on top of releasing our new Chrysanthemum ‘Archie Harrison’ to mark the momentous occasion, and share our congratulations with the new parents, their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“We’re revealing an exclusive first look at RHS Malvern Spring Festival and we’re look forward to seeing Chrysanthemum ‘Archie Harrison’ grow and prosper alongside its namesake.”

The gold medal awarded to Martyn was his 61st.

The rich blooms of chrysanthemums have been favoured by the Royal family for many years.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, Prince Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s grandparents, famously selected chrysanthemums as one of the flowers to adorn Westminster Abbey for their wedding in 1947.

The striking new variety chrysanthemum ‘Archie Harrison’ is available from the Chrysanthemums Direct online shop at chrysanthemumsdirect.co.uk, at £2.80 per plant
