THREE Liberal Democrats have been elected onto Wilmslow Town Council, while Residents of Wilmslow (RoW) has continued its local elections success.

Following on from yesterday’s borough election results, which saw the Conservatives lose all but one of their members in the town, the party has continued to lose ground on the town council.

Two Lib Dems have been elected onto the council for Wilmslow West – Birgitta Hoffman (1,128 votes) and Oliver Romain (1,067).

They are joined by Mark Goldsmith (2,037) from RoW, and Conservatives Gary Barton (966) and Julie Dawn Potts (1,067).

But Christopher Dodson (891) and Angela McPake (928) have lost their seats for the Conservatives, while fellow Conservative James Perry also misses out (646).

The third Lib Dem was elected in Lacey Green, where Damian Carr (422) joins Conservative Viveene Brooks (511).

Steven Greening, Conservative (398) and Labour pair Paddy Maguiness (263) an Ribia Nisa (405) have missed out.

In Dean Row, Jon Newell breezed to success for RoW (1,248 votes), and is joined by Conservatives Ian Ferguson (460), Frank McCarthy (640) and Martin Watkins (463) – but David Pincombe has lost his seat (391).

Following the results, Oliver Romain wrote on Twitter: “Thank you to everyone who supported us. Three Lib Dem councillors on Wilmslow Town Council a first for Wilmslow. #LibDemFightback #demandbetter”

RoW and the Conservatives already had two members each for Wilmslow East, which was uncontested.

It means the Conservative Party has seven members in total, but no overall majority as RoW has four members and there are three Lib Dems.

Meanwhile, Alderley Edge First has swept the board in the village’s parish council election.

Craig Browne (1,322), Bev Chapman (1,155), Mike Dudley-Jones (1,146), Myles Garbett (1,087), Rachel Grantham (1,288), Sarah Greenwood (1,166), Geoff Hall (1,161), Liz Marshall (1,183) and Michael Taylorson (1,102) have all been elected.

On Handforth Parish Council, Barry Burkhill of Handforth Ratepayers (316) and independent Brian Tolver (271) are elected for South ward.

Independents Susan Moore (451), Aled Brewerton (353) and Jean Thompson (369) are elected for West ward.
