WARRINGTON'S new street market has been postponed due to poor weather conditions this weekend.

The Wire Market was due to launch tomorrow, Saturday, and take place on the last Saturday of each month as part of an initiative by Warrington Market.

Stalls were set to be dotted around the market forecourt, Buttermarket Street and Market Gate with a 'Bridge Street Bazaar' selling vintage goods and collectibles.

The monthly pop-up market will now start on Saturday, June 29.

It comes as the Met office has issued warnings of potential strong winds and heavy rain. Gusts could reach speeds of more than 40mph.

Market operations manager Paul Blaney said: “After months in the planning, it is disappointing to have to postpone the market at this late stage. We have modern stalls and plenty of secure weights, but gusts can be unpredictable and we are not prepared to put the public and traders at risk.

“We would like to apologise to shoppers who were looking forward to the event, but their safety is our primary concern. Our award-winning indoor market remains open and you’re guaranteed a warm welcome."
