INDEPENDENT charity East Cheshire Housing Consortium (ECHC) has been chosen as one of a small number of best practice representatives in the care sector in this year’s Parliamentary Review.

The Review is a publication which shares innovative strategies and showcases sector-specific commentary from organisations, companies, ministers and executives all over the country.

ECHC, established in 1991, provides support and housing for vulnerable individuals with often complex backgrounds, primarily mental health problems.

Despite a change in government funding in 2000 the organisation has thrived, and has seen growth rise from a turnover of £20,000 in its first year to £3 million today.

The organisation now provides accommodation for more than 100 people and has opened a new home each year since 2001.

Brenda Wright, CEO since 2015, said: “It has been a privilege to be involved with the Parliamentary Review and to have an article which highlights the progress we have made and the day-to-day challenges we face.”

In the Review Brenda attributes the consortium’s success to staff continuity, their forward-thinking attitude and their strong ethos.

Jim Bisset, chairman of the ECHC Board said: “I am delighted that the Review has highlighted the major contribution ECHC makes to the care of vulnerable adults within our society.”
