THE heartbroken widow of a motorcyclist killed in a crash is backing a campaign calling to lower the speed limit and layout on the road where he died.

Former policeman Ian Glanister, from Parr, was on his way home from work at Egertons Recovery in Knutsford on Thursday, March 28 when he was involved in the fatal crash.

Ian was riding his motorcycle on Manchester Road when a crash occurred with a car leaving Cottons Hotel at around 6.25pm.

The 29-year-old died at the scene.

Knutsford Guardian:

Following the dad-of-two's death, the third on the stretch of road in three years, a petition has been launched calling for a review of the 60 speed limit.

Ian's widow Leianne Glanister hopes that changes can also be made to the layout of the road, adding "the excuses need to stop before another child loses their hero".

The 30-year-old said: "How many more people have to lose their lives on such a dangerous stretch of road before something is done?

Knutsford Guardian:

"The review to the road is long over due, and has been turned down once before that I know of.

"The speed limit is not the only issue and didn't play a factor in my husband's accident, the lay out of the road and the lack of visibility is just as dangerous.

"Businesses on the road should have a clearly marked entry and a separate exit to avoid cars pulling out blindly on to what is already a dangerous road.

"This road and it's many issues has not just changed mine and my daughter's lives but many other families and even members of the public.

"There has been a campaign running for a long time and I believe if things had been changed then my husband would still be here today.

"The time to change is now, the excuses need to stop before another child loses their hero."
