A CELEBRATION of all things netball is to be performed in Chester next month.

Preparations are currently gathering pace for the 2019 Netball World Cup which comes to Liverpool in July.

For successful Chester-based playwright Gail Young, the timing is excellent as the revival of her netball-themed play, Bouncing Back, will be staged at Storyhouse Chester, as well as the Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool this year.

Described as a celebration of all things netball, Bouncing Back follows a group of women returners to the game, the trials and tribulations of their training sessions, group bonding, getting sponsorship, tough coaching, and the stress of organising 'me time' as they struggle to get fit and reach their ultimate goal of actually winning a game.

It is a play with wide appeal, proven by its sell-out 2016 premiere which received a huge amount of interest and feedback from the netball community and the wider public throughout the country.

Fans of the show include England netball coach and University of Chester graduate Tracey Neville MBE, who took to social media tweeting “This is one of the best things I've ever seen!’

Speaking about the 2019 production of the play, playwright Gail Young, who herself played in various school netball teams, said: "I am really excited that Bouncing Back is returning to the stage in both Chester and Liverpool in 2019, the year that the Netball World Cup comes to Liverpool.

"The cast are really throwing themselves into rehearsals, especially the match sequences, to ensure that the show has an authentic netball feel to it!

"It is a real celebration of a game that women all over the country are flocking back to."

Gail’s work is published by Samuel French and includes ‘Cheshire Cats’, ‘Bothered and Bewildered’, and more recently ‘Head Over Heels’.

Bouncing Back runs at The Garret Theatre at Storyhouse, Chester from Wednesday, May 29 to Saturday, June 1 at 7.30pm, with a matinee performance at 2.30pm on Saturday, June 1.

All tickets are priced at £10. Full details for the Chester show can found at www.storyhouse.com/event/bouncing-back where tickets can also be booked online.
