VANDALS caused roughly £10,000 worth of damage in Greenbank School during the holidays during the Easter break.

Nine skylights were damaged in the Greenbank Lane school during the break in which all need to be replaced along with the electrics underneath the lights.

Greenbank School is a special educational needs (SEN) school which offers a residential provision during term time for students.

Lauren Leech, Finance and IT manager in Greenbank School, said: “Over the school holidays Greenbank School in Hartford has had a significant amount of criminal damage done by two boys and a girl around age 16.

“The culprits were seen by a few staff members on our roof just before the damage was found.

“We are a small special educational needs school and this just means that there is less money to spend on our students, which is disheartening for everyone here- when we all work hard to get the best for our students here.”

A green bike was found in the school along with the damage.

Lauren added: “Whoever did this lost their bike because it had fallen through one of the skylights and the police have now taken it away for DNA testing.”

A Just Giving page has now been set up to help raise money to cover the cost of the damage.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "Officers are appealing for information from the public after a school in Greenbank was damaged by vandals.
Between 4pm on Tuesday 9 April and 11.30am on Wednesday 10 April a number of unknown teenagers climbed onto the roof of Greenbank School.

"They then smashed a number of skylights.
During the incident a bicycle was thrown through one of the skylights at the school on Greenbank Lane."

Inspector Andrew Smith said: “These unscrupulous offenders took it upon themselves to cause thousands of pounds worth of damage for no other reason than mindless vandalism.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and as part of the investigation I am keen to hear from anyone who believes that they may have witnessed something suspicious in the local area.

“I urge anyone with any information which may help our investigation, no matter how small, to contact the team here at Northwich Police Station on 101.”
