FIREFIGHTERS were tasked to help a bird who had become stuck in a lake in Allostock.
At around 11.50am yesterday (Saturday, April 13) fire crews and a RSPCA representative were called to Wash Lane following reports of a grebe being entangled in mesh in the middle of a lake.
A technical rescue specialist liaised with the RSPCA about the best way to rescue the bird.
The specialist then retrieved the grebe using a rescue raft and water safety equipment.
The bird was then handed over to the care of the RSPCA.
Firefighters were at the scene for more than an hour.
