HIGH Legh Primary School and High Legh Pre-School Nursery have joined forces to organise a fundraising family cycling challenge.

The Bikeathon takes place on Saturday, May 18 and includes 10km, 5km, 2km and 1km routes along the Trans Pennine Trail, starting at Lymm.

Proceeds raised from the Bikeathon will be split between the primary school and the nearby pre-school on Pheasant Walk, which is a registered charity.

The pre-school is raising money to transform the outdoor area at its premises to create a brand new outdoor learning environment for the children, while the primary school is raising funds to create a multi-use games area (MUGA) to increase sporting facilities at the school.

Helen Crawshaw, chairman of the pre-school committee, said: “The Trans Pennine Trail celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, so what better time to make the most of this fantastic facility while helping us raise funds for pre-school.

“High Legh Pre-School Nursery has been at the heart of the village for almost half a century, but we rely on fundraising and donations to keep going, so we’d urge people to join our Bikeathon and help ensure our wonderful pre-school can continue for generations to come.”

The Bikeathon is open to all ages and abilities.

Rebecca Booth, from High Legh Primary School PTA, said: “Our fundraising bikeathon promises to be a fun day out for the whole family.

"You don’t need to be an expert cyclist, and there are routes to suit all ages and abilities, it’s just a great opportunity for people to get out on their bikes or scooters and explore the beautiful Cheshire countryside right here on our doorsteps.”

The Bikeathon starts on the Trans Pennine Trail at Mill Lane in Lymm, and there are two sessions from 10am to noon, and 1pm to 3pm.

Registration costs £10 for adults and £6 for children aged three and over, and includes refreshments on route and lunch at the end. Children are also encouraged to collect sponsorship for taking part.

To register to take part, go to eventbrite.co.uk/e/high-legh-primary-and-preschool-family-bikeathon-tickets-55448340479 and the passcode for the event is CYCLE.
