TAKING part in the huge Put it to the People march at the weekend was one of the best things Josie Clancy said she had ever done.

The Mobberley resident was among what organisers claimed was a million-strong march which descended on the centre of London to call for a final public say over Brexit.

Josie is a supporter of the Wilmslow for Europe group, and travelled to the capital with her husband to take part in the march from Hyde Park Corner to Parliament Square.

“I am absolutely against Brexit, and it was a really memorable day,” said Josie, who was taking part in her first protest march since her student days in the 1980s.

She said: “It was one of the best things I have done in my life – it was part of history and I was proud to be there.

“I was taken aback by the size of the crowd, which was enormous, and the mood of everyone was so positive and good-humoured.”

Josie was one of the thousands of marchers who waved EU flags, carried placards and banners bearing political messages, her home-made banner featuring pictures of Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage alongside lyrics from 90s song ‘Would I Lie To You?’ by Charles and Eddie.

Josie is one of almost 5.5 million people who have signed a petition on the Parliament website calling for Article 50 to be revoked and for the UK to remain in the EU.

More than 10 per cent of Tatton constituents, almost 8,900, have signed the petition.

A petition calling for the UK to leave the EU without a deal has been signed by 1.03 per cent of Tatton constituents.

The Revoke Article 50 petition stands at 5.494 million, and the Leave the EU petition at 545,000. The figures were correct as at 2.20pm on Monday.

The 'Revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU' petition states: "The Government repeatedly claims exiting the EU is 'the will of the people'.

"We need to put a stop to this claim by proving the strength of public support now, for remaining in the EU. A People's Vote may not happen - so vote now."

The 'Leave the EU without a deal in March 2019' petition states: "We are wasting billions of pounds of taxpayers' money trying to negotiate in a short space of time.

"Leaving the EU in March 2019 will allow the UK good time to negotiate more efficiently. The EU will be more eager to accept a deal on our terms having lost a major partner."
