WOMEN don't have to suffer in silence from physical violence or mental cruelty.

Two survivors of domestic abuse are starting a support group to help victims of domestic abuse to rebuild their lives.

Winsford mums Becky Linton and Sam Summer know what it is like to endure painful, emotional torment.

The pair met on a six week rehabilitation programme after escaping from abusive partners.

Becky said: "When the course finished we realised there is no local support group so we thought it would be really great to set one up.

"When you are in an abusive relationship you just feel so alone and isolated. To be able to be in a group of women who fully understand where you're coming from is so comforting."

The mums understand just how difficult it is for victims of physical, mental, emotional or financial abuse to pluck up courage to seek help.

"I was married quite a long time when it eventually came to a head and I had to get the police involved," said Becky. "It was the best thing I have ever done. When I look back I realise I've come a long way.

"Cheshire police officers were absolutely wonderful with me.

"We want to reassure women that all the services are there to support you. We will help you to find the right people to speak to for information, housing and other practical things."

The mums are starting the support group, Just Me, on Wednesday, March 27.

It will run weekly during term time only so mums don't have to worry about child care.

"It will be very informal, a cup of tea and a chat," said Becky. "We can all be together and help each other, no one is going to judge anyone. It will be completely confidential.

"We will have a set of rules. We won't ever say 'hello' to you when you are out and about if you are still with the abuser."

The venue and time of the meeting is not being advertised to protect the safety of women.

"It will be in a completely secure environment," said Becky. "Women can send us an email or call us and we will give them the details.

"We know how difficult it is to find the confidence to come to a meeting. We can meet the women outside and walk in with them. There will always be time before and after the meeting if women need extra support.

"For me personally I like to listen first before I start joining in. Being in a room full of women who knew and understood what I had been through was so supportive."
