WARRINGTON Borough Council has granted planning permission for a new rooftop bar to be built in the town centre.

The new rooftop terrace bar and restaurant will be built at the former treasury building on Palmyra Square, offering an outdoor space to Italian eatery San Lorenzo - which first opened its doors last year.

Building work at the grade two-listed building is expected to begin next month.

Stockton Heath-based Dove Architecture and Interiors put together designs for the rooftop terrace.

Director Derry Edwards said: "We were delighted to put together this contemporary scheme that contrasts the traditional grade two-listed building with the modern look of zinc and brick cladding.

"This latest design adds to our growing number of approved schemes in areas with historic buildings, and shows one area of our expertise.

"We love making historic buildings work for their modern day uses."

Warrington Borough Council gave its consent for the scheme on Thursday, March 21 - secured by County Planning Ltd on the applicant Brenrun Ltd's behalf.

County Planning Ltd director Dan Matthewman added: "The approval follows months of negotiation with the planners and meticulous work with the principal designer at Dove to bring to life the client's vision for the scheme.

"Every detail, right through to the lighting design, had to be considered and justified in our submissions.

"We were pleased to achieve this permission after only eight-and-a-half weeks of deliberation and without any pre-commencement conditions."
