HESWALL'S Will Vaulks made his international debut for Wales last night in a 1-0 friendly victory over Trinidad and Tobago in Wrexham.

The 25-year-old debutant impressed the 10,326-capacity crowd with a cross to Liverpool midfielder Ben Woodburn who then secured Wales' victory for the start of their 2020 European Championship campaign.

Vaulks, who was released by Tranmere Rovers in 2013, is now captain at Rotherham United and qualified for his place in the Welsh squad through his mother.

After the game, Vaulks tweeted: "Thank you for all the messages. Overwhelmed, really enjoyed that tonight. Absolutely buzzing to get my first cap so quickly... Clean sheet and a win to top it off."

Manager Ryan Giggs selected a shadow side with the opening Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia in Cardiff only four days away.

Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and David Brooks were among the headline acts missing, and it is quite possible that only captain Ashley Williams of the starting XI in Wrexham will play on Sunday.

However Vaulks' tenacity and awareness shone bright on his international debut.

Wales' opening European Championship qualifier against Slovakia in Cardiff will take place on Sunday, March 24.
