LISA Williams is taking on the Wilmslow 10k on Sunday to say thank you to North West Air Ambulance Charity after being badly injured when she was 15.

In April 2013, Lisa, was involved in a road traffic collision in Congleton while on her bike delivering the morning paper round.

Due to her injuries North West Air Ambulance Charity was urgently dispatched, arriving with its specialist team on the scene within minutes.

It was clear that Lisa had sustained potentially life-threatening injuries, and was unconscious when they arrived, so the paramedics worked quickly to stabilise her at scene and airlifted her to North Staffordshire Hospital immediately.

Lisa says: “I was in a coma for five days and spent around three weeks in hospital and for a while suffered with short term memory loss.

"I am so fortunate to have had a full recovery and for this reason I am eager to raise money by taking on the Wilmslow 10k, especially as they are solely dependent on charitable donations. Every £9 donated funds one minute of a NWAA mission.”

North West Air Ambulance Charity are the nominated charity for this year’s Wilmslow Running Festival. Lisa will be joining Team NWAA along with her father for support.

Her father Steve said: “Lisa was hit by a car on a blind bend whilst crossing the road. Thankfully she has no memory of the accident. We believe that Lisa wouldn’t be here today without the assistance of the North West Air Ambulance Charity that day.”

Each year, North West Air Ambulance Charity completes approximately 2,000 rescue missions throughout the region making the first-step towards a patient’s survival.

They airlifted 42 patients in the Cheshire area, out of a total of 224 missions, in February 2019, with 23% being road traffic collisions.

Linda de Sá, events officer from NWAA said: “We’re pleased to hear that Lisa has made a good recovery from her injuries and we’re honoured that she is taking on a challenge to fundraise for our charity.

"We really wouldn’t be here without the generosity of our supporters like Lisa and events like Wilmslow Running Festival helping us to raise the £9 million needed each year.

"We’re looking forward to welcoming Lisa and the rest of Team NWAA to the Wilmslow Running Festival on March 24.”
