A PENKETH care home is enjoying recognition from the Care Quality Commission after being rated as 'good'.

In the report from an inspection in February, the care home is rated good in all areas and highlighted how residents in the home benefitted from 'personalised care to meet people's needs, preferences, interests and give them choice and control'.

Heathside Mews was built 13 years ago by charity Warrington Community Living to provide a home that focuses on the needs of older people who either, because of physical frailty or dementia, need extra support and expertise to continue enjoying their lives.

The report also stated: "People were treated as individuals and their privacy, dignity and independence were promoted.

"There were dedicated activities staff who devised a varied and imaginative schedule of activities both inside the home and trips out."

WCL chief executive Michael Sheppard said: “As a local charity we deliberately keep our homes available to people who need financial support from the council or who cannot afford the high fees that many care homes charge now.

"However, this does not mean we compromise on our quality and once again this report shows that CQC recognise the good and still improving service Heathside Mews provides to the community.”

The inspection team said: “We observed staff speak to people in a kind and caring way. We saw that staff and people living there knew each other well and engaged in pleasant, meaningful conversations.

“Without exception, relatives of people who lived there told us they were happy with the care their relatives received.”

Sarah Gardner, manager at Heathside Mews was specifically highlighted in the report for her strong leadership.

She said: “It is the attitude and values of the team in a care home that makes the real difference and I am really proud that the team’s hard work and desire to make a real difference in people’s lives has been recognised by CQC in this way.”
