DRIVERS are being warned about a major pothole on the A50 at Allostock.

The pothole is on the Holmes Chapel-bound side of the road, near Equiport equestrian supplies, where drivers have pulled over to await tow trucks after hitting the pothole.

The Guardian was sent pictures of the pothole by a member of the public, who said he had reported the six-inch deep hole to Cheshire West Council as an emergency.

The man said a large number of cars had suffered damage from the pothole, which was between the bridge and Equiport, where he said cars pulled up at the car park to await repairs or being towed.

The man, who did not wish to be named, said: “The pothole damaged at least four cars in under two hours yesterday (Monday).

"This is not just blowing tyres out, but buckling wheels and damaging steering and suspension.

“I made it clear to Cheshire West Council this was an emergency and could cause a serious accident.

“It’s pretty clear the pothole is caused by sub-standard repair works, and white lines are visible, which are usually a prelude for roadworks. However these clearly are aged.”
