A RESIDENT sent us this picture today of flooding outside retirement/sheltered housing in Knutsford.

The resident said: "The photograph was taken today outside our apartments, Oakwood and Beechwood, in Tabley Road.

"The council have been made aware this week by various residents, and the only thing they have done is to put a 'Flood' sign in the vicinity."

"Residents are all above retirement age. Some have walking difficulties and some don’t have access to a car and are unable to get out past the water."

Oakwood has 32 flats, and Beechwood 35.

The resident added: "The road has been flooded on and off for the last week. Water is regularly left in the gutters and the more it rains, the worse it gets.

"Last Sunday the road was completely covered and the central white line was not visible.

"This drained away but left huge puddles in the gutters for the rest of the week. Today (Saturday) the water is completely over the footpaths."

A Cheshire East council spokesman said: “Heavy rainfall in recent days has resulted in heavy flooding and pockets of flash-flooding in many parts of the country, including Cheshire East.

“Where there have been reports of unexpected and exceptional levels of surface water, the council’s highways teams will investigate to establish if blocked drains contributed to the problem or whether – as in many instances – the consistent heavy rainfall was the sole contributor.

“There are 92,000 gullies to be maintained across the borough and the council has a policy and programme of cleaning and clearing gullies where required.

“Gullies are emptied according to their locations or where there may be a history of blockages. Gullies in A and B roads can be emptied up to four times a year and a record made of gullies where a particular blockage problem is identified.”
