IT’S a family affair for this year’s Goostrey Rose Queen Casey Wakefield, who is following in the footsteps of her great aunt and grandmother.

Twelve-year-old Casey’s great aunt Irene Bell became the village Rose Queen in the summer of 1941 at a garden party, especially arranged because of the hostilities, at the White House in Goostrey.

Following the Second World War in 1948, Irene’s sister Joan, Casey’s grandmother, was Britannia in the annual pageant - a role both Casey and her sister Cheyenne have fulfilled in recent years.

Casey, who lives in Meadow Avenue and attends Winsford Academy, will be crowned on Saturday, June 29.

The Rose Queen‘s attendants will be Amelia Hunt-Mason and Lilianna Hamer.

Matilda Few is the 2019 Rosebud Queen and Isobel Comb will be the Lady in Waiting.

The attendants will be Emily Ball, Eva Macleod, Olivia Pearson, Rose Saunders and Maddie Farrar.

Chairman of the Rose Day committee Christina Burgess said: "Rose Day, which dates back well over 100 years, is a very special occasion for the village of Goostrey, and so we are delighted that, yet again, there are young people who want to continue the tradition.

“The standard set by the girls this year was extremely high, and the judges had a really difficult job choosing the Rose Queen.

“I am sure Casey and her attendants will have a day they will remember for a very long time.”
