FOOTBALL club chairman Jason Lynch has thanked everyone for their ‘amazing’ support for a title-winning junior team.

Jason was speaking after almost 100 people came along on Sunday to cheer on Goostrey Junior FC under 14s to their 15th win in 16 games.

He said: “We played our 16th game of the season, with this weekend at home and the first as champions of the league.

“Our visitors were Winsford Colts, who will finish second in the league and have been our closest rivals all season.

“The call for a good spectator turnout was answered by the amazing residents of Goostrey, as we had almost 100 people turn up to watch an intense game on a heavy pitch with a cold wind, sunshine and rain.

“I’ve never seen the car park so full to overflowing, and it was so good to see such a brilliant turnout for the boys, who didn’t disappoint.”

Goostrey won 4-0 with goals from Harvey Lynch, Wade McCaffrey, Harry Caulkin and Euan Causer to see the side win their 15th game with two left to play.

Next Sunday they are at home, kick off at 10.30am, against Winsford Diamonds FC, and the following week, the final game of the season, take on Winsford Diamonds again.

Jason added: “When the final whistle went the celebrations began - knee slides, jumping for joy, cheering and hugs all round.

“Winsford Colts were presented with their league runners-up medals form the Mid Cheshire Youth Football League representative, and Goostrey Junior FC were presented with their league winners medals and the league cup.

“Well done to Rob Kennerley and Steve Lord, the manager and coach, who without their dedication, all-year round training, masterful pre-match and half-time tactical talks such an achievement would not have happened.

“Sue Mottershead outdid herself again with her scrummy cakes, mums and dads provided the fizzy drinks for the boys and The Crown Inn provided a bottle of bubbly to shake up and spray everyone with.

“The after-match pizzas were cooked up by The Trading Post - always a favourite.

“A big thank you to the brilliant mums, dads, grandmas and grandads and everyone else who have come along to watch every match; I honestly believe Goostrey Junior FC are the best supported home and away team in the league.”
