VOLUNTEERS and donations are being sought to help Chapel Lane's In Bloom entry in time for the arrival of judges this summer.

The plea for support comes from Julie Dawn Potts from the Chapel Lane Business Group.

Wilmslow will represent the north west in the large town category at this year’s Britain in Bloom finals, and Julie is also involved on the Wilmslow In Bloom team.

“I am trying to raise £120 to help make horticultural improvements to Chapel Lane before the Britain in Bloom judges arrive in July,” said Julie.

“I have set up a Just Giving page which I have posted on the business group Facebook page.

“My aim is to improve the appearance of Chapel Lane for the benefit of the community in time for the In Bloom event in July, and to promote #ShopLocal through the Chapel Lane Business Group Facebook page, so many more people will support the wealth of independent shops and businesses we have.

“Ideas for the In Bloom event along Chapel Lane include creating a wonderful floral display within the ‘Pocket' community garden which I identified as an area in which needed great attention, with the help of a couple of other volunteers.

“We have cleared and made good this area, which was in a very bad state. We would like to buy wall baskets and planters for along the lane, but without any formal budget we need the help of the community to do this.”

Last year Julie achieved a Gold Outstanding award for Chapel Lane RHS Britain In Bloom It’s Your Neighbourhood award.

“I am hopeful this year I will get more volunteers to help me plant, weed, pick up litter and tidy up the lane in time for the event.

“Grab your gardening gloves and come and help out – it’s very rewarding work. Any donations would be greatly appreciated."
