PRIMARY school teacher Jess Martin is in the running to raise £1,600 in memory of her gran.

Jess, 21, from Wilmslow, is taking part in the London Marathon to support the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association (PSP).

PSP is a neurological condition caused by the premature loss of nerve cells in certain parts of the brain, and this is the first time Jess will have run a marathon.

Jess said: “We lost my gran recently to PSP. It is a fairly unknown condition, and so I wanted to raise funds for research and support for those affected by this debilitating illness.

“I considered how best to raise the funds, and decided that as a complete running novice, entering the London Marathon would be a great way to honour my gran and challenge myself.

“So far family and friends have donated towards my fundraising target; but I was keen to encourage more donations.

“I therefore organised my Big Warm Up Brunch for Saturday, February 23 at Sarafina’s in Wilmslow.

“As well as a glass of prosecco and a wonderful brunch, guests will hear from local Pilates expert, Jules Hardman, on how Pilates can support other training activities, including running.

“I have also spoken to a number of Wilmslow businesses who are donating raffle prizes. I have been overwhelmed by their generous donations, which will help to make this a great event and fundraiser.

“I should like to thank Jules Hardman Pilates, Lee Hampson Personal Trainer, Amy Dick Beauty Artistry, Handforth Beauty Lounge, The Retreat Rooms, Fitism Wilmslow, American Nail Studio, Everybody Sport Wilmslow, The Gym Handforth, David Anthony Hairdressing, Simply Beauty Wilmslow, Nail Boutique Handforth, Thornbirds Hospitality, Sarafina Restaurant and Castletons Accountants.”

If you would like to attend the Brunch on Saturday, which runs from 11am to 1pm at Sarafina’s, at a cost of £15 per head, or would like to buy a raffle ticket for £5 each, please email catherine@mackenziemarketing.co.uk
