THE Manchester Alliance concluded the first half of its busy winter programme at Wilpshire Golf Club and survived the effects of stormy weather to continue the 100-per-cent record of their captain Dave Green (Dukinfield GC) in not losing a fixture due to adverse weather conditions.

Wilpshire Golf Club were fine hosts and the players enjoyed their scenic course overlooking the Ribble Valley, but found high scores hard to come by on a challenging course.

The star of the day was Davenport assistant pro Jamie Howarth, who topped the individual pro section with 37 points ahead of Ryan O’Neill (Penwortham), on 36, and Ollie Pantoja (Ashton-on-Mersey) and Phil Archer (Poulton Park), both on 37.

Howarth had an excellent partner in former Cheshire Boys' star Archie Palmer as they combined well to post 42 points and win the pro-am section by a point from Tim Maxwell (Knutsford) and Ron Davies (Mere), who won a card play-off from Craig Corrigan and Mark Riley (Leigh).

There were new names at the top of the am-am section with Joe Donnelly (Harwood) and Paul Shwitzer (Turton) on top with 42 points from Bolton Old Links duo Dean Hibbert and Dave Marsh, both with 40, and Chorley’s Dave Hemingway and Dave Shovelton on 39.
