NURSING home manager Nishi Gottlieb baked her way to success in a national Christmas cake competition.

Mrs Gottlieb is the manager at Sharston House nursing home in Knutsford.

Care homes group Kingsley Healthcare laid down the challenge to its 30 care homes across England to bake the best Christmas cake.

Mrs Gottlieb baked two traditional Christmas fruit cakes and an intricate gingerbread house for good measure.

Impressed by the professional appearance of the cakes, Kingsley co-founder Sumi Thayan judged Mrs Gottlieb to be one of three runners-up.

She said: “It was a difficult decision. The standard of many of the cakes was really amazing.”

Mrs Gottlieb, who won a £50 prize to treat the residents of Sharston House, said: “I was thrilled to be picked as one of the winners.

“We have donated one of the cakes to St Cross Church during the Christmas Tree Festival.”
