A Wilmslow lawyer has been named as the most inspirational female solicitor in the UK.

Hilary Meredith, chairman of Hilary Meredith Solicitors in Wilmslow, collected the Solicitor of the Year award at the Inspirational Women in Law Awards 2018.

The Inspirational Women in Law Awards are run by First 100 Years, a ground-breaking project, supported by the Law Society and the Bar Council, charting the journey of women in law since 1919.

In 2019 the project will mark the centenary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919 which paved the way for women to become lawyers for the first time.

Hilary said: “I’m thrilled and honoured to be named as Solicitor of the Year at the Inspirational Women in Law Awards.

“A number of research studies have found there is still a marked confidence gap between men and women, and this is something the legal profession needs to address.

“As we mark the centenary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act next year I am looking forward to taking on active role with First 100 Years to ensure a strong and equal future for all women in the profession.

“Recognising the impact female role models can have is critical to the advancement of women in law.”

Hilary Meredith Solicitors specialises in acting for armed forces service personnel. The firm is this year celebrating its 15th anniversary and has offices in Wilmslow and London.

The First 100 Years project was created by Dana Denis-Smith, CEO of Obelisk Support.
