CUDDINGTON Village Hall played host to a heartwarming Christmas-themed tea party at the weekend, with elderly residents coming together to celebrate the festive season.

Betty’s Christmas Tea Party, held on Sunday, December 2, was organised by Abby-Lee Ravenscroft in memory of – and named after – her grandmother who died in August aged 95.

Abby, 26, wanted to put on a free afternoon party for the community and so set about fundraising from family, friends and strangers alike to make her vision a reality.

She said: “My nan and grandad were married for 77 years, and her passing was quite sudden.

“We were best friends – she helped me set up my beauty business. When she died, with my grandad being on his own, I wanted to do something for people in a similar situation. I don’t think there is enough done for them.”

Along with generous donations to bring a festive feel to the event, there were cakes and sandwiches supplied along with gifts for raffle prizes and volunteers who gave their time to help out on the day.

Betty’s Tea Party was aimed at elderly Northwich residents who may not get to see many people during the week.

Transport was laid on by volunteers to get them to and from the event, and a live singer was on hand to entertain with some old classics as visitors enjoyed their tea.

Some of the more-than 50 guests got up to have a dance, and Santa paid a visit to make sure everyone had a Christmas gift to take home at the end of the day.

It is hoped that the Christmas event will become a regular annual event.

“Everyone really came together and made it an amazing day. Most of the people there were widowed, and often they are forgotten about. That’s what drove me to do it. They loved it, and a few have been in touch to thank everyone involved and say it has made their Christmas.”
