BIG-hearted Lions are providing a free lunch on Christmas Day for people who otherwise would be on their own on that day.

Knutsford and District Lions has been offering the lunch for many years, and people who would like to attend are asked to contact the group as soon as possible.

The popular lunch will take place at the Stanley Centre in Bexton Road, Knutsford, for 30 or more people, couples included.

There will be a traditional Christmas meal with all the trimmings, visits from Father Christmas and Town Mayor Cllr Peter Coan, and ending with carol singing.

Collections can be arranged between 11.30am and midday, returning home between 2.30pm and 3pm.

If you would like to attend or know of someone who may be on their own on Christmas Day, please call Jane Webster on 01565 633346 as soon as possible.

“If you are on your own on Christmas Day it’s not special, and it just feels like another day if you are a couple who don’t see anyone,” said Jane.

“It’s important that people can get together and have fun at Christmas, and everyone seems to enjoy the lunch at the Stanley Centre.”

Members of the Lions cook and serve the lunch, and more than 25 members will be collecting in the centre of Knutsford on Friday and Saturday, December 7 and 8, from 9am to 4pm.

The event is the group’s annual Christmas collection, which is raising money towards the cost of putting on the Christmas Day lunch and the senior citizens variety show being staged in 2019 at Knutsford Methodist Church.

The show is due to take place on February 2, and will offer an afternoon of free musical entertainment, rounded off by the famous Lions Sketch. Tickets for the popular show will be available in the new year.

To fund these and other events the Lions club relies on donations. If you are able to help please leave cheques made payable to Knutsford Lions Charity Account, or cash, including unwanted foreign or out of date currency, in a sealed envelope at Knutsford Heritage Centre.
