KRAFTWERK have been revealed as the first headliner for Jodrell Bank’s award-winning Bluedot festival.

The electronic music pioneers will close the main Lovell Stage with a ‘3-D’ live performance on July 20 in what will be their only UK headline festival performance of 2019.

It follows a limited number of sell-out UK theatre shows and special appearances at the Bilbao Guggenheim, New York’s Museum of Modern Art and London’s Tate Modern Turbine Hall.

Bluedot, which will back for its fourth year in 2019, is curated by the team behind Kendal Calling and merges music, science and culture over four days at the observatory nominated for World Heritage status.

In 2014 Ralf Hütter and his former partner were honoured with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and in January of this year Kraftwerk won a Grammy for ‘3-D The Catalogue’ - a high-tech recreation of their previous albums and the soundtrack to the live show they will be bringing to Bluedot in July.

Bluedot, which will run from July 18 to 21, has previously seen headline performances from the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Pixies, The Flaming Lips, Underworld and Jean-Michel Jarre, plus high-profile space age talks with Brian Cox, Richard Dawkins and Alice Roberts Dallas Campbell.

With a series of talks, workshops and hands-on experiments, Bluedot also explores the latest scientific discoveries and plays host to discussions on key issues like climate change.

The first wave of Bluedot 2019 artists will be revealed in January 2019.
