FIREFIGHTERS were called to two separate instances of kitchen fires caused by unattended cooking at the weekend.

On Sunday afternoon at around 2.10pm, firefighters were called to reports of an oven fire at a detached house at Foxley Heath in Widnes.

Three fire engines attended, from Widnes, Runcorn and Penketh.

On arrival crews discovered that the property was heavily smoke logged after a cooker had been left unattended and that all persons had been accounted for.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a large high pressure fan to clear the smoke and were in attendance for nearly an hour.

Just after 4pm firefighters were called to a report of a fire at a block of flats on Water Street in Runcorn.

On arrival the crew discovered smoke caused by unattended food at one of the flats.

Firefighters ventilated the smoke and were in attendance for around 40 minutes.

They were also kept busy with a fire on a field off Page Lane in Widnes.

At around 4.15pm he crew extinguished the small fire in the open using water and were in attendance for around 10 minutes.
