A CHRISTMAS concert at Arley Hall is set to raise vital funds for a disability charity, helping to improve the lives of disabled people.

Tickets on sale for the evening concert at the St Mary’s Chapel on Tuesday, December 18, in aid of the Leonard Cheshire charity.

The concert celebrates the work of the charity, founded in 1948 by war hero and global humanitarian Leonard Cheshire.

It supports huge numbers of disabled people through community programmes, residential accommodation and supported living schemes.

Lord Ashbrook, north west patron for the charity, said: “Every year Leonard Cheshire helps people across the world so it is our pleasure to celebrate its achievements and the efforts of all its supporters.”

Along with superb renditions from professional musicians, this year’s concert features a special performance from a Gareth Malone-style Leonard Cheshire Christmas Choir.

The choir includes local Leonard Cheshire staff, residents, members of the charity’s community programmes and their families and friends.

Amy Bradley, who founded the choir, is part of the charity’s award-winning Change 100 internship programme, which offers paid places to talented graduates with disabilities or long-term health conditions.

She said: “Leonard Cheshire’s Change 100 programme has quite literally changed my life.

“Our choir will showcase the inclusivity, collaboration and community of Leonard Cheshire. I’m hoping the night will help cultivate hope and a sense of possibility for all those involved, particularly those on long and difficult rehabilitative journeys.”

Community groups lending support include Offerton Methodist Choir, The Stockport Male Voice Choir and Gatley’s University of the Third Age.

To celebrate Leonard Cheshire’s RAF heritage, cadets from the 2137 Squadron in Lymm will be volunteering on the night.

The VIP reception is sponsored by Product Support Services and the Leonard Cheshire Christmas Choir by Corkills Northwich.

The concert runs from 7pm to 9pm, with mulled wine and seasonal refreshments served during the interval. Doors at 6.30pm.
