GREEN-fingered volunteers are being sought to help Knutsford continue its blooming marvellous series of successes.

The town won the sought-after Gold Award in the North West in Bloom competition for the third year running, with town mayor Cllr Peter Coan being presented with the framed award certificate.

Volunteers from Knutsford in Bloom worked in partnership with Knutsford Town Council to provide superb floral displays around the town.

The success of this year’s entry was even more impressive given the long drought which preceded the judging day in July.

Knutsford in Bloom is a volunteer group established in 2009, which is made up of 10 dedicated members, and the group is now looking for new members to join.

Becoming a member of the group offers opportunities to be involved in larger projects such as planting a wildflower meadow as well as the opportunity to work on displays in prominent town centre locations.

Sam Youd, a member of the group and former head gardener at Tatton Park, is particularly keen to see younger people involved in the projects, and is inviting interest from local schools and youth groups such as the Scouts and Guides.

Cllr James Power, the chairman of the town council’s environment committee said: “A massive thank you to the incredible volunteers who have won gold again for Knutsford.

“I would encourage anyone who is interested in joining Knutsford in bloom to get in touch.”

Knutsford won gold in the Best Large Town category, and the award ceremony took place at Southport.

Cllr Coan said: “I took great pride in being presented with the North West in Bloom Gold Award.

“I accepted this on behalf of all our fantastic volunteers who are out in all weathers keeping our town’s floral displays looking so wonderful – well done to everyone.”

There was also success for Bexton Primary School, which won a School award, and Sparrow Lane Allotment, which won an Outstanding award in the RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood category.
