POLICE Community Support Officer Liz Chesters is stressing the dangers of walking across railway tracks.

Her warning comes in the wake of reports of young people walking across the track at Holmes Chapel Railway Station.

PCSO Chesters said: “There is an ongoing investigation with British Transport Police after we had a report of five youths on the railway station in Holmes Chapel who walked over the train track instead of using the footbridge.

“There was a strike on this day with Northern Rail services, however other train operators and freight operators were still in service so this could have been a fatal incident due to the youths trespassing.”

You can text @BTP on 61016 to report non-emergency incidents whilst on the train.

PCSO Chesters added: “Your local beat team has been on patrol in Dane Valley, and we are pleased to say we have noticed a decrease in the reports of anti-social behaviour being reported.

“I have also been working with the local Speed Watch teams and getting out on the roads with our police speed gun, as the main issue raised at our community beat meetings is speeding in Dane Valley.

“We will continue our efforts in reducing excess speed on our roads, and if you have any concerns of a specific road in your area do not hesitate to contact us so we can look into it further.

“As this is a priority being raised by residents we are looking at another traffic enforcement day in Dane Valley, where we will be focusing on the weight restriction in the village and the fatal four offences - speeding, driving whilst on a mobile phone, drug/drink driving and not wearing a seatbelt.

“I would also like to advertise our new social media pages which have been created for Dane Valley.

“This means we are able to speak directly to you as our community about incidents and crimes we are finding in the area.
