SCOUTS are celebrating the success of their explosive night at the weekend.

The Goostrey Scouts’ bonfire on Sunday raised about £3,000 to help towards the cost of buying equipment and organising activities.

The annual bonfire and fireworks display were held on a field alongside the group’s new Scout hut in Main Road.

“The bonfire and firework event was very well attended on a clear night,” said Group Scout Leader Neil Memmott, who was delighted by the support for the evening and the total raised.

“All the barbecue food cooked by the Goostrey Scouts ran out before the fireworks started.

“Goostrey Guides were serving hot drinks and cakes, and Goostrey Pre-School’s marshmallows were also very popular.”

The team which organised the evening was led by executive members Tony Taylor, Mark Nelson and Colin Mottershead, and

Ray Brown and Sons was thanked for loaning equipment to help create the bonfire.

Goostrey Guides and Goostrey Pre-School use the new Goostrey Scout Hut and Youth Centre, which opened in May 2017.
