JODRELL Bank's space age extravanganza, Bluedot, has been nominated for a prestigious UK Festival Award.

The event, which blurs the lines between music, science, arts and culture has previously won New Festival on the Block and Mind-Blowing Spectacle at the Association of Independent Festivals.

Now it has been nominated for Best Medium-Sized Festival at this year’s UK Festival Awards at the Troxy in London.

This year's Bluedot took place in July when the likes of The Chemical Brothers, The Flaming Lips, Future Islands, Public Service Broadcasting and Gary Numan played.

There was also a special Blue Planet in Concert performance.

The concert combined live music from The Halle Orchestra against a backdrop of footage from the original Blue Planet 2001 television series produced by the BBC Natural History Unit.

Festival organiser Ben Robinson said: “Bluedot is a truly spectacular event held in an even more spectacular location and being nominated for Best Medium-Sized Festival is a real real testament to everyone involved.

“We are yet to win a UK Festival Award and so winning this would be truly incredible.

"We’d be delighted if people could take five minutes out of their day to vote. We have an amazing bill for 2019, the best yet.

"It’s not just the headline artists that will impress, we’ve really raised the bar with our science, arts, culture, wellbeing and food content and have some very exciting announcements in the coming months.

"We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Bluedot for another weekend of discovery.”

Bluedot, which is run by the same team who host Kendal Calling, will return from July 18 to 21, 2019.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landings, festival goers can expect an extra special weekend of talent from across the musical, scientific, literary and arts communities with five distinct arenas featuring cosmic culture, talks, screenings, lectures, comedy and debates, hands-on activities and more.
