HOLMES Chapel cannot cope with more new homes, say residents opposing plans by Bloor Homes North West.

The housebuilders are seeking planning approval from Cheshire East Council for 168 homes on land at London Road in Holmes Chapel.

The proposed scheme is the second phase of a wider development, and would mean there would be 244 homes at the site in total - an additional 54 to the 190 already granted planning permission, including 76 for phase one.

The developers say the approved access onto London Road can accommodate the extra homes, and the extra traffic generated represented a very minor impact on local roads, but the plans have sparked anger among villagers.

A resident from Lochmaben Close said: “We have enough affordable and new houses in the area - we do not have the infrastructure to take any more.

“Holmes Chapel is gridlocked by the amount of people living around here who drive. Stop another blot on our landscape that once was so lovely.”

A resident in Macclesfield Road said: “A density of 34 dwellings per hectare is incredible and well in excess of the neighbouring area of the village.”

A Chester Road resident wrote: “It is apparent to everyone living in and around Holmes Chapel that the traffic has become unmanageable and that air pollution has become quite appalling.

“Pedestrians and cyclists are at great hazard. It is obvious that all services are completely overwhelmed and inadequate.

“The neighbourhood plan although crystal clear, has done nothing to slow this rapid and ill-considered expansion.”

A Field View Close resident said: “Holmes Chapel cannot cope with the influx of the families that would occupy these dwellings as it is struggling to cope with all the extra people that have moved into the area because of the other building projects completed in the past 12 months.”

An Alumbrook Avenue resident said: “There have been too many new builds given the go-ahead already. The infrastructure cannot cope with any more.

“There aren't enough school places. The doctors and pharmacy aren't coping with more people. The roads are too overcrowded. At busy times it can take over an hour to get from one side of the village to the other. They are wrecking what was a beautiful village.”

The deadline for comments on the application, reference 18/4921C, is November 15.
