VISITORS to Knutsford Methodist Church on Saturday, November 3, will be given a fascinating glimpse into the lives of Knutsford soldiers from the Great War.

In the autumn of 1918 a total of 549 Knutsfordians were serving in the armed forces away from home – 180 never returned or died of war-related illness at home soon after the war ended.

Knutsford Town Council has teamed up with the Cheshire Villages Great War Society to host an exhibition at Knutsford Methodist Church.

Visitors will be able to discover the lives of Knutsfordians and their families, seeing precious belongings and artefacts and find out how to use online resources to research their lives.

The exhibition, which takes place on Saturday, November 3 from 10am to 5pm, will host a treasure trove of photographs and details of soldiers from Knutsford and its surrounding parishes as well as displays of memorabilia, weapons, uniforms, medical equipment and medals awarded to soldiers.

The free exhibition also features a display of “what tommy carried into battle”, showing the items our soldiers took to the front line.

If you visit the Makers Market on Sunday, November 4 between 12pm and 1.30pm you will find five ‘First World War soldiers’.

The Silent Soldiers will be handing out cards with information on soldiers from Knutsford who gave their lives in the war and will be found parading across the town centre.
