TIM Flowers, the Solihull Moors manager, said his players’ attitude ensured they avoided an FA Cup exit at the hands of Witton Albion on Saturday.

The National League side progressed to the first round proper for a third successive season following a 2-0 win in which Adi Yussuf and Liam Daly were on target.

“We were professional and made sure we did our job,” said Flowers.

“It was never going to be easy; Witton have a good record at home and a lot of teams will come here and not win.

“We knew what we were up against, and set out our stall to be bob on defensively.

“And, for the most part, we stuck to what we’re good at.”

An even first-half, during which neither side created much, was punctuated by an opening goal six minutes before the break.

After Luke Maxwell had taken the ball off Danny McKenna, he slid it into the path of full-back Tyrone Williams.

His cross from the right was perfectly-flighted for Yussuf to steer a downward header into the net off an upright.

Flowers said: “We got our noses in front after a good finish.

“After you take the lead, then you know a clean-sheet wins the game for you.

“I felt more comfortable in the second-half when they tired a bit, which is perhaps to be expected.”

Albion failed to test goalkeeper Ryan Boot despite attempting to find a way back into the game.

Instead the Moors dealt efficiently with crosses sent into their penalty area before settling the outcome when Liam Daly’s spectacular rising shot found the far corner.

“It was a wonderful strike and took the pressure off,” added Flowers.

His side will be ball number 60 in the draw at Top Field, home of Hitchin Town, on Monday.

BBC Sport plan to broadcast proceedings on BBC Two from 7pm.
