Why should I watch..?

To see if 1874 Northwich can build on momentum gained from an improved run of results in the past month.

That may have dissipated slightly when Ashton Athletic recovered from 2-0 down to pinch a point thanks to a couple of late goals last weekend.

However the visitors have vowed to take the Macron Cup seriously, and their players have been told that places are up for grabs in a side to start this season’s FA Vase campaign at Newcastle Benfield in a fortnight’s time.

Chadderton occupy 16th position in the North West Counties League’s First Division North, and have conceded most goals in the section of teams outside of the bottom three.

However they will be motivated to spring a surprise, and in turn kick-start their own campaign, following a run of poor results.

What they’ve said

“We want to progress, and this isn’t a game where we think it’s appropriate to make a host of changes to take a look at different players.

“One or two will be forced on us, as has become custom.

“We think we’ve been improving over the past few weeks, and it’s essential we keep that going. We need to perform.”

Wayne Goodison, 1874 Northwich co-manager

Numbers game

1874 have lost only one of their past six matches, while Chadderton have been beaten in four of their past five.

1874 team news

Full-back Matty Russell serves a one-match ban as punishment for receiving five yellow cards since the start of the season.

Danny Thomas is unavailable, but midfielder Jack Irlam (head) has been passed fit to play and Jordan Tucker returns following treatment on a back complaint.

Ryan Mitchell continues to be ruled out by work commitments, but new recruit Sam Hare will be in the squad after playing 90 minutes for Knutsford in a Cheshire FA Amateur Cup fixture last weekend.
