A FURTHER 164 homes are on the cards at Winnington Village, after plans were lodged to build on land backing onto Moss Farm.

A mix of flats, mews, semi-detached, townhouse and detached homes are proposed for the development, which is sandwiched between the sports complex, the former Winnington Business Park and old Weir Engineering site off Winnington Avenue.

The business park has been demolished with plans approved in July for 160 homes, 17 industrial units, three retail units and a pub, while the engineering site has been redeveloped by Barratt Homes into the 153-home ‘Winnington Dale’

A planning application, submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council by Saunders Architecture and Urban Design, said: “The proposed site is approximately 3.73 hectares – 9.2 acres – and is a brownfield site.

“It has historically been occupied by industrial uses but in recent years has been used intermittently for the open-air storage of containers and thus had little benefit for the wider area in terms of employment opportunities.”

A wildlife corridor and new Winnington Avenue road access – both to the west of the new homes – are also put forward in an outline planning application submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The planning statement said: “The 10 metre-wide strip of land which extends from Winnington Avenue through to the larger portion of the site has been proposed as a wildlife corridor.

“This could also be used as a pedestrian link between Winnington Avenue and the playing fields to the south of the site.

“The area would have a designated accessibly walkway making it easy to navigate throughout the space, and surface changes could be explored to add interest, variation and texture to the area.

“Contemporary style seating will be placed along the corridor to improve usability and to encourage people to stop in the area for longer.”

A design masterplan suggests the up to-164 homes would consist of 30 one-bed and 18 two-bed apartments, 30 two-bed mews homes, 48 three-bed semi-detached homes, 26 four-bed townhouses and 12 four-bed detached homes.

The layout would be linear, with the larger homes lining the southern boundary of the site and a three-storey apartment building leading onto blocks of mews and semi-detached properties.

Developers say the plans, which will be subject to a reserved matters application finalising the finer details, will be ‘sustainable’, ‘sympathetic’ and well-connected, reducing reliance on vehicular traffic.
