A WATER main burst which was first reported last Saturday had still not been repaired yesterday.

The leak which has resulted in water running down Tarbet Drive, Breightmet, has flooded a pathway at the side of one resident’s house.

Alan Greenhalgh, 87, whose house is situated on the corner of Tarbet Drive and Torrendon Road, said he was angry that despite calls to United Utilities the water was still running and flooding his pathway.

He said: “It must have emptied half of Wayoh Reservoir by now, given that it has been running day and night since last Saturday.

He explained: “On Saturday, one of the other residents reported it to United Utilities and I believe a van came up over the weekend, but nothing was done to repair the leak and water which is still cascading down the street and flooding the side of my house.

“At a time when we have had messages to save water, I would have thought the United Utilities would have prioritised mending it.”

He added: “I contacted United Utilities on Tuesday again and they said they would call me back on Wednesday, but I am still awaiting that return call.”

A spokesman for United Utilities said: “We’ve been notified of a leak on Tarbet Drive.

"All customers currently have water and we have scheduled repairs to begin on Monday, October 15.”

The spokesman added: “Because the burst pipe is in a difficult location on a junction, we have had to carefully plan how we carry out repairs in order to minimise disruption to customers in the area.”
