FLEDGLING choir PopVox Knutsford is looking forward to a festive showcase after making its debut by singing in the rain.

The group was launched in May and performed at Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park Knutsford at The Lambing Shed.

The rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the members as they belted out classic pop songs during the Saturday morning and afternoon sessions.

The singers enjoyed entertaining everyone while they were waiting to enter the festival, even if they got soaked in the process.

PopVox was formed seven years ago and has several branches across the UK. It was founded by Emma Nowell, who decided to use her professional experience and love of music to create a fun, friendly adult choir.

PopVox Knutsford rehearses at Manor Park Primary School from 7.30pm to 9pm every Tuesday, and sessions are £7 per week.

It is a mixed choir open to men and women, there are no auditions and no need to read music, and caters for all abilities and levels.

Grace Walker, who leads the Knutsford choir, which has 20 members, was keen to use her professional skills as a musician, singer and teacher, and joined PopVox as a choir leader.

She said: “Singing is fantastic in so many ways. It is proven to boost health, self-confidence and make you feel great. Through the power of song everyone leaves PopVox with a smile on their face.”

PopVox works towards various events, including performances at CarFest North, StoryHouse, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and most recently Pub In The Park Knutsford.

Although these performances are not compulsory, members who wish to perform in public have had great opportunities over the past few years.

Grace added: “Being part of PopVox is really exciting. Over the past seven years we have achieved so much, and PopVox Knutsford has become a fun, friendly and welcoming group of people who love to switch off for a few hours each week and really enjoy singing great songs together. They are already creating a brilliant sound.”

Grace plans to stage between four and six public performances a year, and PopVox Knutsford is looking forward to its next performance at Knutsford Christmas Market on Saturday, December 1, where it will be singing at 3.30pm.
