THERE was a great show show at Horwich Community Centre at the weekend.

The Home and Produce Show attracted lots of entries and visitors.

This year’s fruit and vegetable section included displays of leeks, onions, carrots, beetroot and tomatoes. The overall winner was Robert Pass who took home the Magee Challenge Cup.

The flowers and plants section attracted a colourful entry of vases of garden flowers, roses, small flower arrangements and teacup flower arrangements. The overall winner with an impressive display of cacti was Eric Motteram who was presented with the Horwich UDC Allotment Association Cup by the Town Mayor of Horwich Councillor Peter Wright.

The Home Produce section was hotly contested with a mouth-watering array of cakes, pies, scones and sweet and savoury preserves. The winner was Mrs Marilyn Pearce with her “outstanding” lemon drizzle cake for which she was awarded the Marie Evans Trophy.

Cllr Wright also judged the children’s sections including ‘Imaginary Garden on a Plate’ split into three age group winners: ages three to five years, Leo Quillian; ages six to eight, James Williams; ages nine to 12, Joseph Williams. All the winners received a Smyths gift cards, sweets and winners medal.

Abbie Thomasson was the worthy winner of Best Photo of an Animal or Outdoors category with her fantastic shot of an owl.

Cllr Wright said: "The quality of entries this year’s entries were even better than last year. Next year we are hoping to attract more entries from schools and Scout groups.”
