HOLMES Chapel Comprehensive School headteacher Denis Oliver has spoken of his deep sadness at news of the death of former student Liam Slattery.

Liam, 18, from Cranage, died on August 26, and his funeral is to take place on Friday.

Speaking on the school’s website, Mr Oliver, the school’s executive headteacher said: “It is with deep sadness that I have to inform you that we have lost yet another of our school family.

“Liam left HCCS in 2016 at the end of year 11 to continue his education at a different college.

“While at school Liam was a bubbly and extremely popular character. Since leaving our school Liam has maintained contact with many in his year group, who will be greatly saddened by his death.

“Liam was in the same year group throughout his time here as Greg Priestnall who, as we know, died such a short time ago as he approached his final examinations.

“I am sure everyone will wish to join me in offering our most sincere condolences.”

Sixth former Gregory Priestnall died in April, and a Garden of Memories has been created at the school in memory of student Nell Jones, who died in the terrorist attack at the Manchester Arena.
