TRANSPORT chiefs have admitted that it is their ‘fault’ that buses are not stopping along Bradshawgate.

It follows a complaint from a reader, who wished to remain anonymous, but which has left her disabled husband forced to walk a distance to access the town centre.

However, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) admit they made the decision because of safety concerns.

The woman said: “During recent weeks, the 507 bus from Harwood into Bolton has been re-routed along Bank Street, Bradshawgate, Great Moor Street and on to the interchange.

“This has been due to new parking bays and replacement paving being installed on Knowsley Street, a process which seems to have taken an undue length of time.”

The woman explained: “There is no bus stop between Folds Road and the interchange, meaning that passengers have a long trek into the town centre.

“The bus conductors have said that Bolton Council will not allow the bus company to erect a stop on Bradshawgate.”

The woman added: “My husband, who is registered as disabled, uses this route quite frequently and finds it very inconvenient.

The work on Knowsley Street has now been completed but the 507 bus is still not travelling along there, as other buses are. Can anyone from Bolton Council tell us when this situation will be remedied?

When The Bolton News contacted Bolton Council, a spokesman said the fact that buses were not stopping on Bradshawgate had nothing to do with the local authority and that we should contact TfGM.

The spokesman added: “TfGM are responsible for deciding where bus stops may be located and we have not received any requests from them to put a temporary stop on the road.”

A TfGM spokesperson said: “The 507 is currently on diversion because of on-going roadworks on Knowsley Street.

“When planning temporary stops we always try to take into consideration the needs of all passengers, including those with limited mobility.

“We did look at the possibility of putting a temporary stop on Bradshawgate, but unfortunately there were no safe locations, so on this occasion it was not possible.”

“To be clear it was our assessment and not Bolton Council’s.
