AN invention developed by a Bolton-based firm is a real breath of fresh air!

Radic8, an air purification company, has created INBair O2, the world's first portable oxygen purifier through a stylishly designed headset, which is claimed to deliver 40 per more oxygen into the atmosphere.

The firm’s latest equipment, has attracted the interest of the prestigious Innovation Showcase Competition, which has shortlisted for its various innovative products and was crowdfunded more than four times its target.

The firm was founded by Richard Greenwood and Samantha Kitchen

Richard, who runs Ye Olde Man and Scythe pub in Churchgate, said: “It’s really pleasing to have been recognised for our innovative work in the field of clean air in the medical sector, in schools and in the launch of a campaign to help eradicate some of respiratory viruses that lead to asthma.”

Richard was inspired to set up the firm, after failing to find an effective air purifier for his father, 65-year-old Peter Greenwood, who suffers from a lung condition.

Now in its fifth year, the contest was open to small and medium-sized businesses from across the North West, and attracted 173 entrants competing for four awards namely product innovation, service innovation, digital Innovation and innovative established business.

The winners will be chosen by participants at Venturefest North West 2018 after the finalists make their pitches at the event next month at Manchester Central.

The Bolton firm will be up against Reach and Rescue, a manufacturer of rescue equipment from Wigan, and Redman Racing from Chester, which produces competition rowing equipment.

Each award comes with a package of business support for the winner, provided by organisers GC Business Growth Hub and its partners. The competition is part of the Venturefest North West 2018 programme, sponsored by NatWest, Dehns, Manchester Metropolitan University and Pomegranate Consulting.

Heather Waters, national enterprise manager for competition sponsor NatWest said: “We know that entrepreneurs and small business owners are looking for more than a provider of financial services. They want a bank that helps them to concentrate on what’s important to them - establishing and growing their business.

“That’s why we’re delighted to support Venturefest North West 2018 and be part of an event which gives businesses in the region the opportunity to innovate, grow and access the knowledge, finance and expertise they need to progress to the next stage of their business journey.”
