POLICE have arrested a 25-year-old man from Knutsford on suspicion of rape following an incident in Alderley Edge on Saturday evening.
The incident took place on London Road, and the man has been released under investigation.
Police cordoned off the churchyard at St Philip and St James Church and the car park at the Waitrose supermarket on Sunday morning as part of their investigation.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Police are continuing to investigate an incident involving a vulnerable woman in a churchyard on London Road, Alderley Edge.
“Details of the incident are currently unclear, and officers are working to establish the circumstances.
“Police believe that this is an isolated incident, and would like to thank the public for their co-operation over the past few days whilst the investigation has taken place.”
