THE legacy of Emmeline Pankhurst will be celebrated at a Pankhurst Party in Knutsford on Saturday, July 14 at 2pm.
The event takes place at the Knutsford Town Council offices, and everyone is welcome to attend.
The celebration is non-political, is being organised by the Conservative Women’s Organisation on behalf of the Pankhurst family and promoted by Tatton Conservative Association.
Emmeline Pankurst was born on July 14, 1858, and women were granted limited voting rights with the Representation of the People Act of 1918.
“We will be celebrating 100 years of the first women to get the vote and commemorate the legacy of Emmeline Pankhurst and her comrades in fighting for women’s suffrage,” said Joely Garland, a campaign assistant at the Tatton Conservative Association.
“Tatton MP Esther McVey will be attending, along with other inspirational women involved in politics.
“In addition students from the surrounding area will be attending and bringing along their hopes for women in a hundred years.
“These hopes will be added to our ‘wishes artwork’, which will then be displayed at the Forum for Private Business in Ruskin House during the Heritage weekend in September.”
The Pankhurst Party will include homemade cakes and refreshments.
