AN adrenaline fuelled circus show was performed in Weaverham over the weekend.

As crowds flocked to the village to get a glimpse of some death-defying stunts, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to get a taste of what was on offer from a slightly different perspective - standing in the middle of a globe-shaped cage as motorcyclists ride horizontally around me.

Circus Funtasia has been performed across the north west over the past few years and stopped off in Weaverham as part of its latest tour.

I went along to see for myself the work that goes into putting on a show like this and the level of focus and commitment required to perform these stunts.

I was greeted by a team who are extremely committed to providing a high octane show that everyone can enjoy.

Circus Funtasia’s infamous ‘Globe of Death’ motorcyclists were back with new riders and new routines that showcase exhilarating stunts that define the show.

When standing in the middle of the cage you realise just how fast these bikes are going and you really see the level of precision needed to perform this stunt.

The stunt requires complete concentration from each of the riders and is always a highlight for the audience as they circle the metal globe at speeds reaching 40mph.

But just standing still in the middle of the cage proved to be a challenge in itself. The way the whole cage shakes when the bike is at top speed hammers home the danger involved in the stunt.

Just being in the middle is enough to get the adrenaline going.

Clown Emilion Delbosq always takes centre-stage at Circus Funtasia and instead of face-paint and big wigs, Emilion prefers a smart shirt and glasses when he performs in the ring.

Emilion, said: “Thrill-seekers will love this year’s cast which includes the whip-cracking, fire-breathing Antonio Candela. He’s a hot act to follow.”

Watching the body burning up close is quite the spectacle. The steam radiates from Antonio as he moves the flames up and down his arm.

“A hula hoop and tightrope act is performed by French artist Elodie," Emilion added. "And our teenage Harley Quinn lookalike Nia will also be back on her Segway, making everyone envious of her incredible knife-juggling skills.”

Speaking to Tracy Jones, one of the founders of Circus Funtasia, it is easy to see how passionate the team are about delivering a special show that will not easily be forgotten.

“This is our sixth year now so we’re still quite new," Tracy said.

“Me and my partner Julio have been working for other shows but just managing them so we thought we’d put on our own show, we love working with the circus and my husband is so passionate about it, we just thought we would give it a go.”

“It’s a struggle sometimes but we absolutely love it.”

“We came to Northwich four years ago, but this year was really busy. We’ve had a lot of feedback and a lot of people coming to book tickets.

“Some of them only two years and for some of them this is their first season.

“We try to change it up every year. This is our third season with the motorbikes, they change it up every time.

“We know a lot of these artists from other shows, but this is their first time with all of them together and we are really happy about that because they are all brilliant."

The team at Funtasia take great pride in moving with the times and have made sure there are no animals involved in their shows. They are purely about the stunts and providing entertainment that everyone can appreciate.

Tracy added: “With state of the art lighting and a modern soundtrack, we’re moving away from circuses of yesteryear.

“We love being a contemporary family show that everyone can enjoy.”

Funtasia Circus vows to be back in Cheshire again soon and it is not a show you want to miss.
