INDIAN restaurant owners are planning to build on the success of the business with a major redevelopment of the Grade 2 listed town centre building.

Shurid Ahmed from the Eastern Revive restaurant in King Street, Knutsford, is seeking approval for work including a conservatory-style extension and a rooftop extension.

“Eastern Revive is a popular and thriving local business, which is a key part of the Knutsford dining scene,” said a report by Mark Whitfield from Whitfield Architects accompanying the applications.

“The restaurant offers high quality food and drink within a high quality environment.

“The proposals are contemporary in nature as a direct contrast to the historic style of the original building.

“They seek to enhance the poor quality rear flat roof area by converting this into usable accommodation and by making the other small improvements to the restaurant to further enhance the existing facilities and diner experience.”

The restaurant is seeking approval for three applications, including a new single storey rear extension to replace the current rear balcony.

Approval is also sought for a replacement shopfront, and a new rooftop extension, internal alterations and covered dining area located on the existing flat roof.

“The three planning and listed building consent applications are for a significant redevelopment of the restaurant,” said Mr Whitfield.

“The existing restaurant has been adapted over many years by the current and previous owners, and is a popular, high quality and well-regarded feature of the local dining scene.”

Replacing the ground floor rear open terrace/balcony with a new glazed, ‘conservatory’-style extension would extend the ground floor restaurant area for additional dining spaces.

The planned shopfront alterations envisage mainly replacing the existing glazed window section with new double glazed opening windows.

Mr Whitfield said the new rooftop dining area would provide excellent views to the east and south, and would also upgrade the appearance of the rear of the property, which consisted mainly of an empty flat roof area which suffered from rainwater leaks in heavy rain.

Permission for the work is sought from Cheshire East Council, and the deadline for submitting comments on the applications is June 28.
