RAILWAY Inn regulars are being invited by Tony and Lynda Davies to join a summer of celebrations being held to mark the couple’s 30 years at the village pub.

Tony and Lynda are the landlord and landlady at the Mobberley pub, which they took over in May 1988.

The 30th anniversary celebrations begin on Friday, May 4, when regulars are invited to join the Davies family over drinks to share stories from the past 30 years.

To add to the celebrations The Railway will host the annual Rose Queen disco on Saturday, June 16 from 5pm, and on Saturday, July 21 villagers can look forward to a family fun day from 4pm.

Tony said: “The Railway has been a favourite among locals for more than 150 years and we’re proud to continue to run it as a traditional British pub.

“A great gang of regulars has formed over the years, and along with our great selection of food and drink, there’s always a friendly face to welcome visitors.”

The pub boasts a beer garden, vault with darts board and bowling green, which was installed by Tony and Lynda.

Lynda said: “Having spent 30 wonderful years at The Railway, it seems only right for us to celebrate with those faces, old and new, who have helped to shape the pub into such an important part of the community.

“It’s time to raise a glass to celebrate the last three decades and look forward to the future.”

Based on Station Road, the building – which formed part of the Toft estate – dates back to the mid-1700s.

It became a pub in 1860 following the completion of the Manchester to Chester railway line and was taken over in 1936 by Mrs Rustage – great aunt of Tony Davies – who held the licence for 36 years.

In May 1988 Tony, his wife Lynda and their children Laura and Matthew relocated from their previous pub in Newton-le-Willows to the Railway Inn and began life in Mobberley – a move which saw the couple return to familiar surroundings.

Tony hails from Knutsford and Lynda was born and raised in Mobberley, having lived at Grimsditch Farm where her father was a dairy farmer and brother continues to work.

In the village’s churchyard, their family traces back to the 17th century, and Lynda and Tony’s eldest grandson, Zachary, is the fifth generation to attend Mobberley Primary School.

In 2009, the couple purchased the pub from Punch Taverns, making the Railway Inn Mobberley’s first free house.
