From acoustic gigs to summer hits, one Northwich musician has received instant recognition for her first single.

Dolly Rae, 21, has been performing with her acoustic guitar in restaurants and bars for about four years and now she is ready to change her sound and explore the possibilities in dance music.

She is featured on the new Mario Ayuda track, ‘Don’t Feel Right’ which is currently on the iTunes dance chart and Dolly is delighted the single has finally been released.

“I was nervous because it’s my first single and I’ve been sitting on it for a couple of months and because I do a lot of gigs around Cheshire with my acoustic guitar no one had really heard the music I wanted to make.

“I was worried about how it would be received but it’s been so amazing and I couldn’t have had a better out come from it really” Dolly said.

After the success of her first release, Dolly has decided that this is the style of music she wants to pursue.

“I studied music at university and it was only around November 2016 that I based my dissertation on becoming a writer for electronic music because I’d never written before and I was hoping that would push me.

“Collaborating with producers and making feel good music, that’s the route I want to go down for sure” she said.

“The single came out when the first burst of sun came out so I was just like ‘this is perfect’.

“I didn’t expect it at all to be honest. I have a team that I work with and one of the guys just emailed me saying ‘look where you are in the charts’. It’s insane that people are actually listening to me.

Dolly proceeded to explain how she got the opportunity to feature on the track.

She said: “In September I started writing with a group called the 1990 club in Manchester and from that point onwards I started training with them in song writing and getting used to the group.

“I think it was around January or December, the team said ‘we’ve got this guy called Mario Ayuda who’s sent us a track and we were thinking we could write to it and you could be the person to feature on it’. So I was just like yeah of course let’s run with it.

“It just came about that way because producers send us tracks all the time to write to and we just put them to the side for other artists but this time it was like an in house one which was really exciting.

Dolly has loved the experience so far but understands that there is a lot of competition in the music industry at the moment and individuality is as important as it ever has been.

“I’ve got so much to learn, Until September I had no idea about this side of the music industry so it was amazing to be learn more about it.

“I definitely want to figure out my own sound, I want to go down the electronic route but I’m just kind of playing around with it at the moment, I’ve written a couple of songs and I’m just getting them produced to see where they can go.

“I think we might be working on my EP soon or just trying to get a few more features in. The near future is looking quite good”

Dolly is happy still performing her acoustic sets for the moment but she is excited to build her own repertoire of songs to change her live shows.

“I only started writing last year, before that I’d never written a song before in my life.

“I think I’m still learning a lot with it like how to write in different styles and how to find the right lyrics and chords and build upon things.

“It’s going to take some time but I feel at the moment I’m happy just doing my acoustic sets because I love the reaction I get.

“For now I’ll keep doing that but once I’ve built up enough material I’ll start doing my own sets.”
